the world’s greenest battery

Northvolt is a Swedish technology company whose goal is to help Europe transition into green, clean, emission-free renewable energy by producing the world’s greenest lithium-ion battery.

Category

Other categories of solutions include lithium-polymer, lead acid batteries, lithium iron phosphate, and others. The other big bet for grid-scale batteries is on redox flow technology, but as yet this is not available on the market.

Subcategory

Northvolt’s direct competition are companies working with lithium-ion development. But with Northvolt’s blueprint of how to produce batteries cheaper, they’re able to spend more on R&D to perfect their battery technology. By tracking the footprint of raw materials in their production chain, they are also a more sustainable solution than most other companies.

Northvolt’s range includes battery systems and cells for automotives, grid power, electric vehicles (EV), industrial vehicles and solutions, construction tools, bicycles, lawn mowers, and more.

In 2022, the first block of Northvolt’s full-scale recycling plant will become operational, with the ability to recycle 25,000 tons annually.

Partners and customers include renowned organisations such as ABB, BMW, Siemens, Vestas, Vattenfall, SCANIA, and others.

In March 2021, Northvolt signed a deal with Volkswagen worth $14 billion. The partnership consists of a combined order that extends over ten years.

With the Sustainability report, we want to recognise companies that not only have a great innovation or solution that has a significant impact on lowering CO2 emissions, but also have put in place measures to scale and commercialise.

The companies in the report have been thoroughly researched by the Megadeals team through interviews with highly ranked profiles within the organisations.

The key principle is that only when the great sustainability innovations scale and commercialise they can create a deep impact and the world a better place.

Why is this important? We simply don't have time to wait.
