Turning waste into fossil-free fuel
C-Green Technology is a Swedish clean- tech company that converts sludge and wet organic waste into sustainable biofuels.
If C-Green’s solution for handling sludge and organic waste were to be deployed globally, and they were the sole supplier, they could reduce global CO2 emissions by 0.21%. That’s equivalent to the CO2 emissions from almost 15 million homes’ electricity use for one year.
Category
Other companies in the sludge and wet waste handling category use more conventional disposal methods. These methods include using the sludge as fertilisers for farming, burning it through incineration, and landfilling (garbage dumps).
None of these methods are sustainable. They are also expensive and require a large amount of energy.
Subcategory
C-Green Technology OxyPower HTC (Hy- drothermal Carbonisation) is a patented sustainable technology that converts sludge and organic waste into HTC biocoal while simultaneously putting an end to emissions and pollution from waste.
OxyPower HTC dries sludge in water without requiring external heat, while simultaneously extracting nitrogen from the organic waste proteins. This process takes place via steam heating steps, all the way up to 200 degrees Celsius, in the HTC reactor, where the sludge is ab- sorbed from the water. Then the water is transferred into a container where an oxidation process recovers the energy.
The product has been installed in Sweden and Finland. C-Green will expand into the rest of northern Europe during 2021 and the rest of Europe in 2022. By 2024, C-Green plans to introduce OxyPower HTC globally.
Their current partners include Stora Enso, Ragn-Sells, Swedish Energy Agency and other renowned companies.
